History of the Broward Partnerships for Kids

The Broward Children’s Strategic Plan (BCSP) was a product of the Children’s Summit held in Broward County in 1999. The BCSP’s benchmarks guided in identifying community concerns, many stemming from broad and deep systemic societal issues, such as poverty and its consequences, as well as family and community dynamics and their impacts on children. The County Commission formally approved the Broward Children’s Strategic Plan on February 19, 2002. Based on the Hawkins and Catalano “Communities That Care” (CTC) model, the plan sets the vision, mission, goals, and objectives for establishing a better community where children live, learn, and thrive.

In 2007, 2012, and 2017, the Children’s Services Council (CSC) and community partners hosted county-wide Youth Summits with service providers, advocates, youth, and Broward residents to envision future steps and celebrate the progress made toward meeting BCSP benchmarks since its inception.

Our Focus is Our Children – Learning & Working Together

Using a Collective Impact approach, Broward Partnerships for Kids (BPK), formerly known as the Broward Children’s Strategic Plan committees, consisting of public and private entities, government, faith-based organizations, and community residents, meet frequently to share data, strategies/best practices, accomplishments, and activities concerning children and families in Broward County. Using the Results-Based Accountability (RBA) framework, this information is summarized into a Turn the Curve Report that is shared with policymakers, other community collaboratives, and funders to advance the work.
